MET Marketing: Why Leeds is the best place to live and work

We might be biased, but here at MET Marketing, we believe that Leeds truly is the best place to live and work. Whether you’re looking for a place to shop or you want to get your teeth stuck into some fantastic career opportunities, Leeds is on hand to help you do both and much more.

Business

Something that has been the hot topic for a few years now is the collaboration of the North to create the Northern Powerhouse.  Coined by then Chancellor, George Osbourne, the Northern Powerhouse is set to attract investment into the North of England in a bid to make the North a stronger contender to rival London.

Leeds has certainly stepped up to the mark in recent years and to support this, the city skyline has changed dramatically with more office space being built and an ongoing increase (15% growth in 2015) in businesses basing themselves in the city. The city has also seen many large brands such as Sky Betting and Gaming choosing Leeds as their base. Sky Bet CEO, Richard Flint highlighted that Leeds is a great place for a technology company such as their own due to having a lot of the ingredients of a successful digital city, including some fantastic talent.

Leeds has quickly become well known for the number of thriving digital, creative and marketing agencies. Our local agencies are doing some impressive stuff with both global clients such as Adidas as well as both local and national SME’s. You only have to check out the likes of the CIPR and Prolific North Awards shortlists and wins in recent years to see how Leeds agencies are making their mark.

Added to all that, Tech Nation reported that Leeds was amongst Newcastle and Sunderland in generating the largest increases in salaries for digital roles.

Currently, we have an amazing selection of roles available in Leeds, so make sure to check out our jobs section.

Study

Home to three universities and several colleges, Leeds attracts thousands of students each year. Added to that Leeds was ranked third in the country for students choosing to study Marketing, which is particularly significant for us here at MET Marketing and those who choose to settle in Leeds after study.

Shopping

Leeds has seen a huge growth in retail since the opening of the Trinity Centre in 2013 and the further opening of Victoria Gate shopping centre in 2016. From high street to designer, along with multiple concessions usually found in London along with the flagship John Lewis store, you can come into the city centre and tick absolutely everything off your list in one day. These additions have made Leeds the third best place to shop outside of London!

Nightlife

Leeds has an incredible choice of bars, clubs and restaurants to cater for everyone’s needs. If you are looking to try something new and want to explore cuisines, then head to Teppanyaki and watch their highly skilled chefs prepare your food on the tableside hotplates. Or have a walk down the recently regenerated Greek Street and the surrounding area to get a feel for the incredible selection of restaurants and bars available.

If you’re looking to carry on your evening and get a taste of the nightlife in Leeds, no matter what age and what tastes you may have, there’s something for everyone. If you enjoy being up on your feet and dancing, then Smokestack and Call Lane Social (top floor Tiki Bar) are perfect. Playing all things funk, soul and jazz these bars are guaranteed to make you smile as well as serving up fantastic cocktails. However, if you prefer to sit back and enjoy your drink over a conversation then head to the bars on Park Row, Bond Street and Greek Street.

Be sure to explore the bars in Leeds, step out of your comfort zone and try to head somewhere different each time. Roxy Lanes and Roxy Ballroom are personal favourites of the MET Marketing team, and we are certainly partial to the odd Friday afternoon bowling session to finish the week off.

R&R

To escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Leeds offers the perfect opportunity to escape to the country to recharge your batteries after a hectic week in the office. Just a short distance away are locations such as Roundhay Park, Yorkshire Sculpture Park or quaint village locations such as Hebden Bridge, host to a variety of independent shops and eateries and surrounded by excellent scenic locations, perfect for clearing your mind.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on why Leeds is the best place to live and work and your recommendations of where to go and what to visit. Tweet us @MetMarketing
