Meet the Consultant: Kane Styles
Name: Kane Styles
Kane is the newest recruit to join the MET Marketing team as Recruitment Consultant, focusing on the fashion and retail market. Find out more about him, including his journalism background, views on the recruitment industry and how he feels being a Brummy in Leeds!
Tell us a little about your background and how you got into recruitment?
I am a university graduate who has a history in sales and working closely with people. I studied Journalism at university and the skills that I learnt during my time at university have actually been really useful with recruitment. Being from a persuasive, customer facing background, recruitment really appealed to me once it all came together and MET gave me a fantastic opportunity.
What job did you want to do when you were younger?
As a child, I really wanted to go all the way in either boxing or football. As time went on, and I played more and more xbox and everything else that a youngster does, it faded away sadly.
What would you say your biggest challenges are working within the recruitment industry?
The biggest challenge in recruitment, for me, is constantly developing my approach and the handling of people. Every person is different and it’s all about adapting yourself as an individual to meet everyone’s unique needs.
How is working in the recruitment industry different to what you expected?
The recruitment industry is a lot different to what I expected. There’s so much more than what meets the eye. Hours and hours of different work goes on – and every second counts.
What does progression mean to you?
Progression, to me, means becoming the best person I can within a business. I want to help my clients, candidates and colleagues as much as I can. I would love to be a hub of trust and advice.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about this job is that I am constantly busy. There is always something to do and every day is different to the last.
What do you love about Yorkshire and Leeds in particular?
Yorkshire and Leeds in particular is superb. The people are great, the nightlife is good and the people like Brummies – that suits me down to a tea.
Recommend where to go in Leeds for a night out?
For a night out, get to Space. Class music, it’s pitch black and everyone is as drunk as the next person.
A bit of trivia
I once went to a WWE show and Triple H lifted me into the ring. I proceeded to do the DX sign with him and Shawn Michaels – fact.
If you were a brand, which one would you be and why?
If I were a brand I’d say I’d be Hugo Boss. Trusted, efficient and absolutely easy on the eye. Sorry but, true really.
