Job Applications – Could less be more!
When job searching the temptation can be to put your name in the hat for every opportunity that has a remote bit of interest / relevance. It’s quite natural to think that by increasing quantity you’ll subsequently be increasing your chances of success.
However, it can work in quite the opposite way. The more jobs you apply to without giving full consideration to your application and suitability the more rejections you could receive. This in turn can lead to negative emotions and increase your desperation to secure any job. An unwanted spiral can begin which could lead to you doubting your own value and worth – something which you need never do.
By spending more time considering which opportunities you really want and are truly passionate about you can invest more effort into tailoring an application. By taking this approach not only will you have a great prospect of a positive response but you’ll also be more likely to actually enjoy the job when you’ve secured it as you really did want it in the first place.
