We’re lucky to work with many talented and passionate recruitment consultants who each come from different backgrounds. We want to give you an insight into what life is really like at MET, so we put together a consultant questionnaire for different members of our staff.
This week, we spoke to our Recruitment Executive Ross Calbraith, as he explains his strategy on finding people their dream role, while telling us a little bit more about himself and his background.
What’s interesting about ross is that he has a background in graphic design and social media as well as having worked as a brand ambassador. Ross’s diverse creative background gives him distinguished knowledge in different sectors, meaning he can give you the best advice when helping you secure your dream job in marketing.
Ross, would you say your specialist area is?
Creative, which if you read on you’ll find out why!
Could you give us some more information about your background e.g. career, education etc?
I’ve had quite a varied background on my route into the recruitment industry, starting out with Art & Design, Graphic Design and Psychology before going on to University to undertake a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration.
I then spent time in industry working as a Graphic Designer, Social Media Executive and Brand Ambassador so I guess you could say that insight is invaluable when it comes to placing roles and in particular understanding exactly what candidates and clients are looking for.
How will you help someone find their dream role?
I work hard to understand what is important to someone and what their dream role means to them. Then I can help them progress their career in a way tailored to their needs, with the goal of making them happy in the long term.
What job did you want to do when you were younger?
When I was very young I wanted to be a palaeontologist because I loved dinosaurs. In my teenage years, I knew I wanted to be involved in the creative industry in some capacity.
What do you love about Yorkshire and Leeds in particular?
Leeds is a thriving city full of things to do and places to go. Leeds is also a great place to work, with a bustling city centre and plenty of career opportunities.
Where would you recommend to go in Leeds for a night out – at least two places (preferably restaurant and a bar).
The Botanist for a hanging kebab and a few cocktails. Then Neighbourhood, Lost & Found and/or Thewlis for drinks.
If you were a brand, which one would you be and why?
The North Face, because I like to hike, I’m used to the cold and you can tell I am northern just from looking at my face.
And finally, tell us something trivial about yourself
I taught myself to play the piano before moving to university.
